The best Japanese restaurant I know. If you have wanderlust this is the first address. You feel like you are a guest with a simply wonderful family. The food is terrific. Always worth a visit !
That was the first time that I left a Japanese restaurant disappointed and hungry. Left curry at Daruma, right curry at another Japanese restaurant
Invited by friends, got to know this friendly little restaurant. We enjoyed delicious sushi, finely fried tempura and delicious sake. Natto as a specialty for Europeans with great enjoyment as a starter. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to enjoy the quite extensive menu generously. Therefore, from our point of view, on another visit to HH and DARUMA more about it :) arrigato ghosaimashta
It is always a pleasure to eat out here. The dishes are very fresh, beautifully presented and very tasty. The staff are very charming and are happy if you speak a few words in Japanese. We always like to come back.
Very authentic shop with really great service. We ate the chef's menu, the version without meat. There was a greeting from the kitchen, a delicious miso soup, sashimi, seaweed / cucumber salad, fried salmon, prawns as tempura on rice in a sweet soy sauce and a homemade matcha ice cream for dessert. The food was really good, but unfortunately the sashimi was very cold and not particularly tasty, so I have to subtract a star!
We really like to eat Japanese and when we come to Hamburg, the fish metropolis of Germany, you can expect one or the other. We called spontaneously and got a table for two. We received a very friendly welcome from the staff. We had to take off our shoes to get to our table. The furnishings, etc., seem to be leftovers from the previous entrepreneur, but new furnishings would definitely do the restaurant good. The food was very tasty, the quality of the fish was very good, so that the price-performance ratio is fair. One can speak of Japanese home cooking without any shishi. When we're back in Hamburg, we'll be happy to come back.
Very nice family Japanese restaurant. Rustic furnishings, good food and a relaxed atmosphere. Always happy.
There used to be a few Japanese people here, and for good reason not anymore. The yaketori skewers were cold and tough. The grated radish was only served with the tempura upon request. The same game with Sukiyaki, the raw egg only came when you asked again. The meat was totally overcooked, traditional vegetables were missing and then the fun cost € 27! Toro and Unagi sushi did not exist, the mixed sushi platter was also of poor quality, even the tamago sushi was messed up. On top of the rice was a huge scrambled egg omelette, but definitely not Japanese style. It's a shame, the shop used to be really good and was traded as an insider tip. The only positive point is the very friendly and lovely service staff.
Unfortunately a big disappointment. Despite the high prices, the portions are very small. The food wasn't nicely presented at all, the taste was ok. The service is friendly but bad. Without a reservation you will be sent away as a matter of principle, even if many places are free. There are better and cheaper Japanese in the area.
Best Japanese in Hamburg !! Amazing food, authentic flavors for a Japanese in Germany. Ate more than we could stomach because we couldn’t stop ordering more. First place to have proper sushi with great fish, very fresh! Couldn’t stop myself from ordering the crispy chicken after several dishes. Wasn’t disappointed, convenient location to go for a beautiful walk straight after to help the full stomach .... Mehr deutsche Japaner sollten so frisch und authentisch kochen!
The chef is very friendly! Awesome atmosphere! I felt home having a good time with the quality food and customer service! It was very delicious, it was a feast! 🍣
Great food, super friendly, great atmosphere. Looking forward to the next time!
Authentic Japanese food at the level I know from there. Yummy with well performed presentation.
Just unbelievable. Top Japanese home cooking. I can only recommend.
A bit of 'normal' Japan in Hamburg. Solid and not fancy Dancy. Great personal service. Feels more like you are a guest, rather than a patron.
This nondescript Japanese restaurant just blew me away! The service was friendly and attentive, but not pushy and I felt very comfortable. The menu offers many dishes and is not just focused on sushi or ramen like many other Japanese restaurants. Since it was difficult for me to make a decision, I took Chef Menu A and have not looked back. The individual dishes were explained to us by the nice service or by the cook himself and also how to best enjoy them, that was very interesting and made it a real experience. The selection exactly matched my taste, there was something from everything and everything tasted very good. The meat and fish were very tender and the salads were fresh. Nothing tasted over-flavored or artificial. The prices are expensive, but you also get high-quality food, which makes the price-performance ratio right. Anyone looking for a very good restaurant in Hamburg should visit Daruma.
The Daruma met all expectations. If you look at the pictures, you know what you are getting into. The service was great, the food was delicious and authentic. The selection is also large, which made me very happy.
Simply the best of the best!! Generally, mild flavour, not too strong. The owner couple & staff are well customer-orientated, but sometimes too busy in handling many other customers. You can try any of those menus, but shouldn't miss their Kimchi Udon.
It was really a great experience. Together with my friend we ordered various Japanese delicacies. We were warmly welcomed and before each course we were told what was on our plates. The location was very comfortable and simple in my eyes, the food was phenomenal. I was very excited and will definitely come here again.
Something special, because a typical Japanese, but with original home cooking. No schikimiki, honest food at honest prices. Top
Excellent service, authentic food and nice atmosphere! Highly recommended
Good authentic experience
From the atmosphere like in Hakuba or Nozawa. The food is excellent, tempura is of course delicious because it is fried, but the side dishes are also excellent. Sitting at the bar is worth it, entertainment is guaranteed 😂
Traditional japanese food and exquisit Sashimi
Delicious food and great staff!!
Very warm, nice, calm place with excellent japanise cuisine. It looks not really modern, but the space has spirit. Sometimes it takes time to find communication "connection" in english with locals but " always is excelent and possible". Their's sushi and all plates are AMAZING, tasty and excellent. It is little bit expensive but "it's enjpyment". Cold or hot sake, nigiri and other ... it is the best in Hamburg !! ... if you pay by card (accepted if over 30€) you will get " one of the last touches with old mechanical device to get details from the card".
Genuine Japanese diner
I wouldn't recommend it at all. The menus are overpriced. I had the feeling they serve cheap breeding salmon. The place smells rather strange, the floor is partially sticky and the whole inventory is cheap (eg. the menu card is so worn out you might get the impression they use it since the 80s). Also from the parts of the kitchen that are visible from outside, this place is a mess.
Unexpected authentic place! Make sure to try the chicken satay, the sauce is amazing!
Best Japanese food in Hamburg. Not a fancy place but very original and incredibly tasty!
Great place, friendly staff, very tasty food. Cozy atmosphere with the kitchen right in the middle so you can watch the chef cooking if you are sat at the bar. Would recommend booking, they only just managed to squeeze us in on a Monday evening.
This place is not trying to be anything it is not, it feels like it fell out of time and it couldn't be more perfect! The cooking is delicious and just makes you feel comfortable, the tables are usually a bit sticky and the staff is incredibly friendly. You leave feeling warm; like you visited your friends home.It always makes me way too happy to go here and is well worth the prices they charge.
Great, accommodating staff with equally great food.
A hidden gem from in Hamburg hafen. The place is a traditional harbour restaurant from the sixties. But with a Japanese cuisine with homemade food. Here you can taste real sushi. And it is japanese run with the sweetest hostess. But the best thing is the food. It is heaven.
Super friendly and helpful staff, great tasting food. Cozy restaurant.
From the food I was very positively surprised, everything was really fresh prepared and it was all explained what that is exactly. The staff was incredibly nice. Ambience is just for me 1 star .... could much be made of it. Well anyway to recommend.
Nice and delicious food home of Japanese

Greatest quality real Japanese food. Highly recommended
Good authentic experience
This restaurant is quite original Japanese. The food was taste like in Japan. The Ambiente and the waiters are great. The cook was very kind and friendly. It is not so easy to find. Overall really traditional food
Amazing place. This is the real deal! Don't waste 1000€ on a flight to Japan. Just come here and enjoy. Super friendly. Not cheap but delicious.
Real family run Japanese place, excellent food and personal service. I will definitely go back to eat here again.
Really kind and neat atmosphere, awesome sushi!! But please reservate a table beforehand, otherwise there will be no table left for you.
Great service! Even better food! A little expensive but definitely worth it!
Daruma is cosy traditional Japanese restaurant in the heart of Hamburg. The food is fresh and delicious and the staff are friendly. We ordered a portion of gyoza, which ended up coming a bit late and the staff apologised profusely in Japanese. It took me back to the small traditional family-owned Japanese restaurants in São Paulo. Daruma is highly recommended and a hidden gem in Hamburg.
Unexpected authentic place! Make sure to try the chicken satay, the sauce is amazing!
